Desert rose (Adenium obesum) with raindrops

Summer’s almost here, so even the plants damaged by the cold winter (and, ahem, lack of proper care) are back.

Wet rose #1

From last year, but the end of last year, so it’s OK, right? I like the last one better; this pic is more of the standard view.

Wet rose #13

Sometimes you have to stick your tongue out at the coming year to show you’re not afraid of it’s challenges. I wish us all lots of fun with our toys in 2009!

Ant on Spanish moss

An ant explores the many avenues available in a large clump of Spanish moss.

Sweat bee on crape myrtle flower

Alexandra has been running some cool flower photos lately; they got me interested in taking another look around my yard. A sweat bee (Augochloropsis metallica?) gathers nectar and pollen on a crape myrtle tree.

Cyathus (Bird's nest fungus)

I’m away for the moment, hoping to return to some good surf. Here’s some wee fungus to pass the time. These buggers were growing on mulch and twig remnants in the pot of a podicarpus. They appear to be Cyathus striatus because of the grooves in the sporocarp. Matt K.’s

Stamen on white rose 2

More stamens from a white rose bush.

Stamen on white rose

The petals are gone, and the anthers are just about out of pollen.

Chinese fringe flower

It’s nice to have a stable innarnet connection again; I’m looking forward to seeing what’s been posted by the usual suspects. Our Chinese fringe flower (Loropetalum chineso) has bold, magenta petals, but I liked the way it looks here as well.

Green lizard on potting bench

The green lizards seem more patient than the brown ones, and will allow you to get pretty close before they scurry off. In the end, he just became another brown lizard through the wonders o’ Lightroom.
